Job summary

Algonquin College is seeking part-time instructors for the Automotive and Mechanical Trades programs. The professor will teach courses, guide learning, and create an effective environment for students within ACCE, under the direction of the Chair.

Responsibilities include curriculum development, defining learning outcomes, advising students, and incorporating educational technologies to support 21st-century learning in a postsecondary setting.

Qualifications

• Truck/Coach Technician 310T credential is required.
• Auto Body & Collision Repairer 310B credential required.
• Automotive Service Technician 310S credential required.
• Minimum 5 years in Apprenticeship Training, Automotive & Mechanical Trades.
• Minimum 2 years teaching experience or equivalent is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in the Automotive Department within ACCE under the Chair.
• Facilitate learning and provide an effective learning environment for all students.
• Engage in curriculum design, development, and updating as part of teaching duties.
• Deliver instruction across Fall, Winter, or Summer terms and monitor learning outcomes.
• Provide tutoring, academic advising, and use educational technologies to support learning.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Chair, Apprenticeship, Automotive and Mechanical Trades, the Professor will be required to teach courses in the Automotive Department within ACCE. The Professor will be responsible for facilitating and guiding learning and providing an effective learning environment for all students.

Required Qualifications

• Truck and Coach Technician 310T
• Auto Body and Collision Damage Repairer 310B
• Automotive Service Technician 310S
• Minimum 5 years in the field of Apprenticeship Training, Automotive and Mechanical Trades
• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, or equivalent, preferably in a postsecondary setting is considered an asset

The design/revision/updating of courses, including:

• Consulting with program and course administrators and other faculty members, advisory committees and a variety of potential employers and students
• Defining learning outcomes and evaluating and validating these outcomes
• Specifying and approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.
• Incorporating educational technologies to meet the learning needs of 21st Century students
• Reviewing and revising curriculum and participating in professional development activities during non-teaching periods

The teaching of assigned courses, including:

• Delivery of regularly scheduled instruction in the Fall, Winter, or Summer terms in home department or across departments
• Ensuring student awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques
• Providing tutoring and academic advising for students both in and out of class
• Providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources including educational technologies
• Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student’s work within assigned courses
• The development and creation of a learning environment that is conducive to success for all students
• The provision of academic leadership, including:
  • Participating in the work of curriculum and departmental/faculty meetings
  • Liaising with community members, engaging in program, Department, School or Faculty, and College promotion
  • Remaining current in the field of study and maintain awareness of emerging trends and practices related to teaching and learning in higher education
