Position Information

The DualCredit program at Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivatedprofessional who shares our commitment to increase secondary studentengagement, confidence and success in a college course to teach BasicElectrical (TFBE 1301).
Part-timefaculty teach up to 6 hours per week with varied schedules Monday throughFriday during regular high school hours. The majority of courses are deliveredas two weekly 75-minute classes in alignment with the high school timetable andperiods. Part-time recruitment is ongoing and is dependent on when courses arebeing taught and the need for faculty to teach. Course assignments are based onscheduling and instructional needs.

Academic starting wages aredetermined based on qualifications and years of related experience. Upon hire,the incumbent will receive a pay calculation to determine their ‘step’placement within the pay range. Part-time professors teaching a dual creditcourse will be paid on the applicable wage grid, which currently ranges from $72.56 through $128.86 per teaching contact hour.
Professors in this program may teach a variety of delivery models, which couldinvolve teaching at a partner high school located in the community, or in somecases, on the college campuses. Responsibilities
  • Creating apositive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural andeducational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  • Utilizingprinciples of pedagogy and universal learning design to actively engagestudents in the learning process;
  • Effectivelyusing educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, anddeliver hybrid and online courses;
  • Developingcurriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess studentlearning;
  • Ensuring thatcourse and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  • Workingindependently and demonstrating initiative; and
  • Workingeffectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal andexternal stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering Technicianor Technology Diploma or Provincially Certified Electrician (309A, 309C or442A).
  • Electrician (309A, 309C or 442A)Certificate of Apprenticeship is considered an asset.
  • Electrician (309A, 309C or 442A)Red Seal is considered an asset.
  • Master Electrician License isconsidered an asset.
  • Aminimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) work experienceas an electrician.
  • Teachingexperience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding andapplication of Universal Design for Learning and current assessmentmethodologies.
  • Experienceparticipating in industry-ledor community-based appliedresearch is an asset.
  • Demonstratedcommitment to putting the student experience first.
  • Demonstrateduse of current technologies to support student learning and the management ofgrades.
  • Proventrack record of life-long learning.
  • Demonstratedability to work effectively with a variety of internal and externalstakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators andcommunity stakeholders.
  • Understandingof the Ontario college system.
  • Must be able to provide a clean VulnerableSector Check (VSC) upon hire.
