Job summary

Fanshawe College is seeking part-time casual staff to support CICE students in London, Ontario. The roles involve attending classes with CICE students, providing transition into college life, classroom support including note-taking, lab assistance, and facilitating group work, with a focus on inclusive practices.

As a member of the CICE Program Team, you will prepare materials, assist with adaptive technologies, and coordinate with teachers to adjust learning outcomes while safeguarding

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary 2-year diploma/degree in a related field (Education Assistant, Developmental Service Worker, etc.).
  • Recent experience with individuals with special needs or learning challenges.
  • Special Education training or experience is an asset.
  • Proficient with word processing, emails, online resources, internet research, and adaptive technologies.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attend classes with the CICE student(s) and support transition into college life.
  • Provide in-class support including note taking, lab support, and group work facilitation.
  • Meet weekly with students to supplement class materials and assist with adaptive technologies.
  • Coordinate with teachers on modifying learning outcomes and feedback for evaluations.

Job description

Note

These are part-time casual positions (up to 24 hours per week) until December 18, 2026 with the possibility of extension into the next (Winter) term.

Duties

Reporting to the Program Manager, School of Community Studies, the specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending classes with theCICEstudent(s)
  • Providing transition into college/academic life
  • ProvidingCICEstudents with support in the classroom including note taking, lab support, group work facilitating, and advocating forCICEstudent concerns
  • Meeting weekly with theCICEstudent(s) to support each scheduled class by preparing and supplementing class material
  • Setting-up and assisting the student in the use of adaptive technologies equipment when needed (in and out of class)
  • Promoting inclusion ofCICEstudents in the classroom and in College social activities
  • Referring students to access appropriate College resources (Financial Aid, Centre for Students with Disabilities, lockers, books, etc.)
  • Working collaboratively as part of theCICEProgram Team
  • Advise teachers of modifications to learning outcomes
  • Provide input to the student’s evaluation process forCICEstudents
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary 2-year diploma/degree in a related field of study such as Education Assistant, Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker or Early Childhood Education
  • Recent and relevant experience working with individuals with special needs, developmental challenges, and/or significant learning challenges
  • Special Education training, Special Education certificate, and/or experience working with Special needs individuals would be considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
  • Proficient with computer software applications: word processing, email applications, online resources, internet research, and adaptive technologies
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience and education in teaching
  • Effective planning, time management and organizational skills to set priorities accordingly and handle multiple responsibilities with tight deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills to provide alternative options/solutions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
