Job summary

Extendicare Ottawa Starwood home is seeking a part-time dietary aide to assist with plating and serving meals, help with preparation, and keep serving areas clean. You’ll work in a supportive team, following established policies to ensure safety and quality in resident meals.

You must hold a Current Food Handler’s Certificate and be able to read, write and understand English. The role includes evenings or days, with weekend and holiday availability and opportunities for growth within Extendicare.

Qualifications

• Current Food Handler's Certificate.
• Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC (Long Term Care) Home 0-1 year(s).
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to read and write English and understand simple verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work safely following established safety practices.
• Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
• Available for workdays, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
• Assists Cooks to clean and prepare simple foods.
• Clears plates and trays; operates dishwasher and cleans utensils.
• Stores and labels dietary supplies and leftovers.
• Adheres to safety and infection control policies.
• Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenette.
• Attends facility meetings and in-service education programs.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

This position is for our Starwood home, located in Ottawa, Ontario.

What you'll be doing

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
• Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follow basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
• Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
• Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Assemble nourishment carts. Stocks unit kitchenettes.
• Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
