Job summary

Extendicare St Paul Home in Alberta is seeking a part-time dietary aide to assist with plating and serving meals, and to help with cleaning serving areas and equipment. The role supports residents' dietary needs and adheres to safety and infection control standards.

Candidates should have a current Food Handler's Certificate, be able to stand for long periods, and read/write English. Availability for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

Qualifications

  • Current Food Handler's Certificate required.
  • Experience in Long Term Care dietary is preferred (0–1 year).
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to read and write English and understand simple English instructions.
  • Ability to work safely following established safety practices.
  • Must be able to lift moderately to heavily.
  • Available for days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Assists cooks with preparing simple foods and garnishes.
  • Clears plates and trays; operates dishwasher; cleans pots and utensils.
  • Stores and labels dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Adheres to departmental policies including safety and infection control.
  • Assembles nourishment carts and stocks unit kitchenettes.
  • Participates in meetings and in-service education.

This position is for our Extendicare St Paul Home, located in St Paul, Alberta

Available opportunities include: Part-Time/Casual; Day/Evening/Night shifts

What you’ll be doing
  • Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
  • Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follow basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
  • Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
  • Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
  • Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts. Stocks unit kitchenettes.
  • Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
What you bring
  • Current Food Handler`s Certificate
  • Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC (Long Term Care) Home 0-1 year(s).
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to read and write English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting
  • Successful candidates must be available for workdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays
