Job summary

Extendicare’s Hillcrest Place in Brandon, Manitoba is seeking a Dietary Aide to join the culinary team. You’ll assist with plating and serving meals, help prepare simple foods, and keep serving areas and equipment clean while following policies and safety standards.

We offer opportunities including full-time, part-time and casual shifts with day and evening options. This role emphasizes teamwork, ongoing learning, and delivering quality meals to residents in our long-term care community.

Qualifications

• Completion/enrollment in a Food Service Worker program.
• Current Food Handler's Certificate.
• LTC dietary experience preferred (0–1 year).
• Able to stand for extended periods.
• English reading/writing and basic comprehension.
• Able to lift moderate to heavy objects.

Responsibilities

• Serve residents according to diets and preferences.
• Assist cooks with simple food prep and plating.
• Clear plates and load dishwasher; clean utensils.
• Store and label dietary supplies, including leftovers.
• Follow safety, QA, infection control policies.
• Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.
• Attend meetings and in-service education; perform other duties as assigned.

As a valued member of our culinary team you will assist with plating and serving of meals. and will be responsible for cleaning serving areas, as well as equipment. This position is for our Hillcrest place Home, located in Brandon, Manitoba. Available opportunities include Full-Time/Part-Time/Casual; Day/Evening/shifts.

Time Type: Part time.

What you’ll be doing

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains foods at proper serving temperature.
• Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follow basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
• Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
• Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Assemble nourishment carts. Stocks unit kitchenettes.
• Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

What you bring

• Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act required. If enrolled, you must complete the program within three (3) years of hire date.
• Current Food Handler`s Certificate
• Previous dietary experience preferred in LTC (Long Term Care) Home 0-1 year(s).
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to read and write English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
• Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting
• Successful candidates must be available for workdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays
