Job summary

Extendicare St. Catharines is seeking a Dietary Aide to support meal service and kitchen duties in a compassionate senior-care setting. You will assist with plating, serving, and maintaining clean serving areas while adhering to policies and quality standards.

As part of our culinary team, you will work 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm, with a part-time schedule and a pay range of CAD 23.76–25.39 per hour. The role requires flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Higher Academic Certification.
• Degree/Diploma in Nutrition or Food Service is an asset.
• Experience with institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service is an asset.
• Must meet physical requirements (standing, lifting, fast paced).
• Ability to read and write in English and understand instructions.
• Safety aware and able to follow safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and temperatures.
• Assists Cooks with prep of salads, vegetables, and fruits.
• Cleans dishes, pots, and utensils; cleans serving areas.
• Stocks nourishment carts and unit kitchenettes.
• Attends meetings and in-service education programs.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

This position is for our Extendicare, located in St. Catharines.

What you'll be doing

• Serves food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observes time limits for meal serving. Maintains food at proper serving temperature.
• Assists Cooks to clean and prepare such uncooked food as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follows basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as sandwich items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
• Clears plates and trays, loads, and operates dishwasher. Cleans pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
• Participates in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
• Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
• Assembles nourishment carts. Stocks unit kitchenettes.
• Participates in facility meetings as assigned. Attends in-service education programs.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

What you bring

• High School Diploma or Higher Academic Certification
• Degree/ Diploma in Nutrition or Food Service Program is an asset.
• Previous dietary skills, knowledge, and experience with institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service environments is an asset.
• Must meet the physical requirements of the position (standing for long periods of time, moderate to heavy lifting, fast paced environment).
• Ability to read and write in English as well as to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
• Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
• Successful candidate must be available to work, days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
