Job summary

Thermea Spa Village Whitby in Whitby, Ontario, seeks a Part-time Cook to join our village. The Cook will prepare dishes, maintain hygiene, and work with the service team to deliver memorable guest experiences. Reporting to the Sous Chef, you will ensure meals are plated beautifully and served promptly.

You should have culinary training, strong stamina, and a positive, proactive attitude. Weekend availability is required and the role offers an hourly wage of $22.75–$25.75 CAD, plus the Thermal

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a similar role is an asset.
• Culinary Diploma from a recognized school is an asset.
• Patient with ability to stay positive under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Positive attitude, autonomy, dynamism and detail-oriented.
• Ability to work long hours on your feet and lift 50 lbs (23 kg).

Responsibilities

• Inspect, clean and maintain food prep areas and equipment to ensure safety and sanitation.
• Ensure food is stored, prepared and cooked at correct temperatures using kitchen equipment.
• Follow restaurant standards, policies and procedures.
• Portion, arrange and garnish food according to Thermëa standards.
• Assist in off-peak food prep for designated stations as needed.
• Substitute for or assist other cooks during rush periods and emergencies.
• Open or close the kitchen following closing checklists and assist in closing activities.
• Coordinate with staff to meet guests’ needs and support restaurant operations.
• Perform other related duties.

What we need.

Reporting to the Sous Chef, the Cook exemplifies and positively influence the kitchen culture as set by organization standards. The incumbent prepares dishes ordered by customers in a quick and efficient manner, while respecting established standards; works closely with the service team to provide excellent service and memorable customer experience. The Cook also performs other duties in the areas of food and final plate preparation including plating and garnishing of cooked items and preparing appropriate garnishes for all hot & cold menu item plates in accordance with corporate standards. Sanitation, health and safety rules & regulations are an integral part of their work habits.

What you’ll do

• Inspect, clean and maintain food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food‑handling practices;
• Ensure food is stored, prepared and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, fryers, roasters and other kitchen equipment;
• Know, understand and comply consistently with the restaurant’s standards, rules, policies and procedures;
• Portion, arrange and garnish food, according to Thermëa standard portion sizes, recipe specifications and plate specifications;
• Assist in food prep assignments for designated station during off-peak periods as needed;
• Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods and breaks;
• Open or Close the kitchen following the closing checklist for kitchen stations and assist in other closing activities;
• Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant;
• Perform other related duties.

Profile needed

What is the profile needed in order to be successful in this position

• Two (2) years experience is a similar position, an asset;
• Culinary Diploma from a creditable school, an asset;
• Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Positive attitude, autonomy, dynamism and detail-oriented;
• Ability to work long hours on your feet and ability to lift 50lbs (23kg) .
