The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) is a Crown corporation responsible for overseeing the Canadian federal interests in four international bridge crossings between Canada and the United States. Its mandate is to provide the highest level of stewardship so that the international bridges and associated structures are safe and efficient for users. FBCL owns, manages and operates international bridges and associated structures in Sault Ste. Marie, Point Edward, Lansdowne (Thousand Islands) and Cornwall, Ontario.

The Bridge Attendant collects toll fees from private and commercial customers while supporting a safe and efficient traffic flow. The Bridge Attendant provides service to customers in a professional and courteous manner while maintaining a sound understanding of applicable FBCL’s policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicates rate and payment options;
  • Collects toll and fee payments;
  • Processes transactions promptly and accurately;
  • Troubleshoots issues with toll and fee collection and reports them to the Operations Supervisor;
  • Holds and releases traffic at toll booth as traffic patterns dictate;
  • Directs traffic into specific lanes when necessary according to procedures;
  • Assists in turning around trucks and refused entry vehicles;
  • Maintains situational awareness including reporting suspicious activities and potential risk situations to Operations Supervisor;
  • Provides support to shift supervisor during emergency situations;
  • Balances all money received in cash room and prepares banking deposit as per procedures;
  • Performs all duties in alignment with applicable procedures, policies and direction received from Operations Supervisors;
  • Performs and completes all assigned duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision;
  • Coordinate with emergency response agencies in response preparedness and routine drills; and,
  • Completes all other tasks as required.

Essential Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • 1 year experience in handling money in a customer facing environment;
  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a 24 / 7 operation;
  • Comfort with the use of electronic systems;
  • Experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to be competent in the role;
  • Ability to maintain self-control;
  • Safety and security minded;
  • Resilient;
  • Reliable;
  • Possession of a valid G driver’s license; and,
  • Ability to obtain and maintain reliability security clearance.

There are currently two part time Bridge Attendant vacancies. Ability to demonstrate and maintain bilingual English and French (BBC levels) is required for one of the two vacancies. The remaining vacancy requires ability to demonstrate and maintain English language only.
