The Opportunity
Recreation and Culture Services builds vibrant, healthy, active and connected communities by providing facilities and programs that give all Barrie residents an opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups.
Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Recreation Facilities, the Recreation Facility Attendant (PT) position is responsible for supporting routine maintenance and operational tasks for the City of Barrie’s community and recreation centres. Specifically, this position assists the Facility Operators in performing routine maintenance and operational tasks on various facility spaces and equipment. Overall, this position plays an integral role in supporting routine maintenance and operational tasks within the City’s community and recreation centres in order to provide a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for recreation programs and activities.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Completion of grade ten (10) Secondary School education
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certifications obtained prior to start date
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification obtained prior to start date

Experience
- Three (3) months of cumulative part-time experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities
Knowledge/Skill/Ability- Demonstrated ability to:
- exert effort to lift, push, pull, or carry objects for short periods of time
- exert effort to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, reaching, grasping, bending forward, stooping, kneeling, crouching or turning
- maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
- perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission, and values
- Basic verbal communication, written communication, customer service, teamwork, attention to detail, and time management skills
- Availability to work days, evenings, or weekends and at various locations
Conditions of Employment
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) Training
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check*
- Please note that this is a requirement for any new employees to the City of Barrie in accordance with the Police Record Check Policy. Existing employees who have met this criteria will be exempt from this requirement.

Location: Applicable Recreation Location
Hours: The normal hours of work are up to and including 24 hours per week with a varying schedule to support business demand.
Wage: This is a casual part-time non-union position with the following 2025 pay range:
- Hourly Pay Rate: $20.61 to $26.65
