Job summary

The Town of Qualicum Beach is seeking applications for a Labourer Trainee in the Parks Department on a temporary full-time basis for up to eight months. Duties include turf maintenance, planting, pruning trees and shrubs, and assisting in developing landscaped areas.

Requirements include Grade 12, a valid Class 5 driver's license, and experience in municipal parks labour with equipment operation. The position pays $29.10/hr, with 40 hours per week and one weekend day.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12.
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
• Experience in all aspects of general parks labour, including the specific areas noted above.
• Experience operating landscaping equipment such as hedge trimmers, string line trimmers, lawn mowers, front end loaders, tractors, skid steer, utility side-by-side vehicles, commercial woodchippers, and chainsaws.
• Physical capability to safely complete continuous manual labour in all weather conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, particularly with the public.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations with a proven track record of working safely.
• Previous municipal government experience will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Turf maintenance and irrigation work.

• Assisting in construction, renovation, and maintenance of landscaped and horticultural areas.
