Job summary

The City of Kelowna is seeking a Labourer II for a 12-18 month term to support Parks Operations. The role involves physically demanding outdoor work, assisting gardeners, and participating in seasonal duties such as snow clearance and lawn maintenance.

Pay rate is $33.71 per hour plus 14% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits. Working hours are 6am–2:30pm, Thursday to Monday, at the Parks Office/Yard location.

Qualifications

• Must be in good physical condition with strength and stamina for heavy manual work.
• Ability to work well with employees, the public, and other companies.
• Basic knowledge of sprinkler installations, repair, and maintenance.
• Elementary knowledge of parks maintenance focusing on turf health and repair.

Responsibilities

• Cuts and waters grass using power mower and edger as required.
• Cleans grounds of debris and litter to maintain neat surroundings.
• Assists gardeners with flowers, trees, shrubs, sod, and turf repair.
• Assists in underground sprinkler work—installation and repairs as needed.
• Participates in beach clean-ups and weed control around the lake.
• Removes dead/damaged trees and shrubs as directed.
• Maintains tools and sharpens hand tools as required.
• Performs other labor tasks like tree cutting, sweeping, and rake leaves.
• Shovels snow and clears sidewalks around civic buildings.
