Full or Part-Time : Wage

Hours of Work : Up to 40 hours per week

Permanent / Temporary : Temporary – Wage, Seasonal

Classification : Maintenance Service Worker 1 (MSW1)

Salary : $20.14 - $24.22 per hour

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.2% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave :

  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay :

  • 3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays.
  • 2.75 per hour for evenings.

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to improving a visitor’s experience when visitors come to visit a provincial park, and want to help promote customer service in the parks by maintaining clean facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team at William A. Switzer Provincial Park within the Yellowhead Management Area.

We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Park Maintenance Workers for the 2025 summer season. Individuals will be part of a team accountable for completing routine custodial, maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities within William A. Switzer Provincial Park.

The majority of work for this position requires the handling of chemicals to complete various janitorial duties. This job can be physically demanding and requires basic understanding of computer operations for minor administrative tasks such as time entry and approval.

We are currently looking to hire :

  • 2 Park Maintenance Workers

As a Park Maintenance Worker (MSW1), duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Performing daily janitorial duties of park facilities such as washrooms, outhouses, picnic shelters, shower houses and any other assigned areas; disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, washing, cobweb removal, stocking up supplies, etc.
  • Daily garbage and recycling removal, picking of garbage throughout the park.
  • Other janitorial duties throughout park, such as but not limited to, pressure washing recycling bins and garbage bins, cleaning exterior of buildings, washing windows, cleaning signage.
  • Seasonal deep clean of facilities at beginning and end of season.
  • Campsite cleaning.
  • Group site cleaning.
  • Cleaning supply inventory counts, requesting supplies as needed.
  • Painting.
  • Organization and cleaning of maintenance shop.
  • Operating equipment such as pressure washers, leaf blowers, mowers, trimmers, UTV’s.
  • Performing landscaping and site servicing of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities.
  • Performing routine and preventative maintenance on infrastructure, vehicles and equipment.
  • Installing and maintaining signage.
  • Assisting with trail maintenance, beach and dock maintenance.
  • Responding to in-person requests for information on area amenities and park conditions, as needed.
  • Reporting all maintenance concerns to supervisor accordingly.
  • Ensuring that your work vehicle is kept clean and presentable.
  • Being familiar with and practicing all pertinent occupational health & safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and protocols; and with the Facility Emergency Response Plan and protocols.
  • Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses.

Qualifications

Education and Experience :

  • Some high school education or directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education.

Additional requirements include :

  • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Final candidates will be required to provide a standard 5-year Driver’s Abstract prior to commencement. (Will be reimbursed).
  • Prior to hire, a recognized current intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate is needed.

Additional Assets to be successful in the role :

  • Experience working in custodial, or similar positions.
  • Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.
  • Experience working within a campground setting.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS.
  • Experience with inventory management.
  • Experience with minor maintenance i.e. Painting, minor plumbing repairs.

For the Park Maintenance Worker role (2 positions) :

  • Late April start date to early September end date.

Terms of Employment :

  • All positions will require you to work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays. You have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week and will be paid for the number of hours worked. You must have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any type of weather conditions, rain or shine.
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent).
  • Final candidates will be required to provide a standard 5-year Driver’s Abstract prior to commencement. (Will be reimbursed).
  • Prior to hire, a recognized current intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate is needed.
  • Adherence to the Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided. Certified Safety footwear is not provided, but candidates will be reimbursed for a portion of the cost.
  • These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Training sessions at beginning of employment are mandatory (late April / early May).
  • Staff housing may be available.
