Role Responsibilities

As a Park Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key leadership role in supporting the safe, sustainable, and enjoyable operation of Alberta Parks. Reporting to the Regional Operations Branch within the Ministry of Forestry and Parks, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and operations of one large, complex park site or multiple smaller sites. This includes supervising staff, maintaining infrastructure, coordinating equipment and utility systems, and managing service contracts.

Your efforts will directly contribute to high-quality visitor experiences by ensuring that facilities, grounds, and park assets are maintained to established standards, in alignment with health and safety requirements and organizational priorities. You will lead and train seasonal and permanent staff, prioritize and assign maintenance tasks, and monitor the delivery of contracted services. Your strong leadership, technical aptitude, and commitment to continuous improvement will support the effective stewardship of Alberta’s provincial parks.

This role requires a hands-on leader who brings operational expertise, sound judgment, and a focus on safety and service delivery excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong technical and mechanical skills, working knowledge of utility systems and regulatory standards, and a passion for maintaining natural spaces for the benefit of all Albertans.

The successful candidate will demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, strong communication skills, political acumen and a strong commitment to client service and building collaborative relationships.

Qualifications

Two-year technical diploma in a related field such as environmental services, facility maintenance, parks operations, or another relevant discipline; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year education.

Other Mandatory Requirements

  • Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Valid first aid and WHMIS certification is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance of park facilities, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Experience in supervising and training maintenance or operations staff, including assigning tasks, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Assets

  • Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of potable water and wastewater systems is an asset; small water/wastewater system certification is considered an asset.
  • Class 3 license with air brake endorsement.

Notes

This position is a full-time permanent opportunity.

This position works Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM-4:15 PM, 40 hours a week.
