Job summary

The City of Victoria invites applications for a Park Trades position within Parks & Recreation. The role coordinates and participates in park infrastructure work at a trades level, contributing to the maintenance and installation of park features.

Work is Monday to Friday, 40 hours, with shifts as required; compensation is $42.13 per hour, plus 15% in lieu of benefits. This CUPE Local 50 posting seeks one skilled candidate with horticulture or landscape qualification.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation required.
  • 2-year horticultural diploma or 4-year BC trades qualification in landscape horticulture or equivalent.
  • Canadian Certified Playground Inspector certification (32 hours).
  • Current and valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, construct, install and maintain park, playground and sports field infrastructure.
  • Construct forms and pour concrete pads; inspect park and playground infrastructure.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment (drill, saw, grinder, etc.).
  • Read and interpret engineering plans and utility locations.
  • Maintain records and reports for maintenance and installations.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment; manage fuel and supplies.
  • Provide work instruction to staff on methods and procedures.
  • Complete daily and seasonal work records and slips.
