Job summary

The City of Victoria is seeking a Trades Assistant to perform a range of horticulture, arboriculture, irrigation and maintenance tasks in Parks & Recreation. The role supports qualified tradespersons and contributes to the care of parks, boulevards, and turf areas, including irrigation systems.

Requirements include high school graduation, a horticulture certificate, irrigation technician certificates Levels 1 and 2, and a valid BC Class 5 license, with about two years of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school graduation required; certificate in horticulture preferred.
• Certification in irrigation techniques (Levels 1 and 2) is requested.
• Active BC Driver's Licence (Class 5) required.
• Two years of related experience or an equivalent education/experience mix.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of intermediate skilled tasks in horticulture, arboriculture, irrigation, construction and maintenance.
• Assist under supervision of a qualified tradesperson; work in greenhouse and park areas.
• Maintain and renovate parks, boulevards, turf areas, trees, and related infrastructure.
• Install, maintain irrigation and drainage systems; operate park tools and equipment.
• Provide instructions to staff and respond to public inquiries when needed.
