The ideal candidate for this position will use their work experience and organizational skills to prepare and maintain legal documents, file motions, interview clients, and conduct legal research. Responsibilities:
  1. Organize our case filing systems to ensure all documents are properly sorted and easy to locate, and other administrative duties as needed.
  2. Aid lawyers in trial preparation by preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, conducting research on legal articles, and assisting with client meetings and filing motions.
  3. Draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits under the guidance of a lawyer.
  4. Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers.
  5. Gather information about legal issues from the client in interviews.
  6. Heavily relied upon for motion writing/discovery skills.
  7. Unlawful detainer experience preferred but not required.
  8. Calendaring.
  9. Prepare templates for counsel for discovery, depositions, briefs, and other legal documents.
  10. Prior experience reviewing records/discovery and testimony transcripts and preparing the associated summary is strongly preferred.
Qualifications:
  1. Excellent organizational skills, and time-management skills.
  2. ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desired.
  3. Must have strong interpersonal skills and talent for writing and grammar.
Required:
  1. Extensive experience with motion writing and discovery in a busy law firm setting.
  2. Prior experience as a litigation paralegal in a busy law firm setting.
  3. Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures.
  4. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client services, including problem-solving.
  5. Knowledge of computer office programs, legal software, and telephones.
  6. Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately regarding complex situations and tasks.
  7. Ability to utilize independent reason and problem-solving skills with limited oversight in order to make accurate decisions.
  8. Ability to follow instructions and utilize problem-solving skills in order to meet crucial deadlines.
  9. Must have extreme attention to detail and organization skills.
  10. Strong ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  11. Basic knowledge of CA procedural code.
Preferred:
  1. Previous experience working with laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, and government regulations as pertains to civil procedure in a busy law firm setting.
  2. Previous experience utilizing and applying Civil Procedure to legal issues.
  3. Prior experience reviewing records/discovery and testimony transcripts and preparing the associated summary is strongly preferred.
Compensation:

$25 - $30 hourly DOE
