The Inland Group of Companies is seeking a Pad Coordinator I to support deicing operations at the Halifax airport. You will coordinate aircraft deicing bays, manage vehicle and aircraft traffic, and help maintain throughput while upholding safety standards.

Ideal candidates have significant aviation operations experience, the ability to work a flexible schedule, and strong communication skills for coordination with pilots and crews. Seasonal full‑time hours apply.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily CDF/DDF operations to ensure compliance with standards.

• Complete paperwork accurately and maintain safety records.
• Brief deicing crew before events and monitor weather impacts.

Position Overview

The Pad Coordinator I, reporting to the Deicing Operations Manager, will work as part of a team to provide support and prevent conflict between users of the facility and between users and obstacles on the facility while maintaining throughput and includes the assignment of deicing bays for aircraft and deicing crews. In conjunction, the Pad Coordinator is also responsible for traffic management for vehicles and aircraft traveling throughout the CDF or DDF.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Including But Not Limited To)

• Proactively foster a learning safety culture by modeling a safe work ethic and promoting the value of open reporting and shared safety responsibility. Follow all safety policies, standards, and procedures in order to achieve a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, customers, and visitors. Similarly support Inland’s environmental commitments by helping to limit our organization’s impact on the ecosystem;
• Oversee CDF/DDF operations for that day to ensure the work being performed is in accordance with company standards;
• Maintain control of deicing operator activities by: Establishing communication with all resources within the deicing bays; Confirming operators established in “safe zones”, both visually and verbally; Confirming vehicle positioning around aircraft; Advising the operator of airline, type of aircraft, flight numbers; Advising the operator of any special requirements of the particular aircraft.
• Ensure that Inland’s policy of superior service and satisfaction and aircraft and personnel safety are met;
• Professionally communicate with aircraft operators (pilots), spraying operators, GRV operators, and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner via two-way radio;
• Assist the station management team with the responsibilities of the overall safety and performance of the de-icing operation;
• Assign work of Aircraft De-icer’s and Equipment Operators;
• Promptly and accurately complete all associated paperwork as required;
• Maintain safe, efficient and professional communication lines as required between: The aircraft; Deicing vehicles; Support vehicles and equipment; Glycol Recovery Vehicles and related equipment (ex. Tanker Trailers); Other agencies on common use areas
• Maintain short and medium range weather forecasts to anticipate potential deicing conditions;
• Ensure that sufficient deicing fluid stocks, equipment and personnel are available for the forecasted weather conditions;
• Immediately identify any shortfall to the Operations Manager or designee;
• Act as a liaison with Equipment maintenance representatives, Deicers and/or Quality Control, Airport Authority, YYTAA, Inland customer airlines and operators, local aircraft ground control agencies, and NAV Canada (when required);
• Assist operators with trouble-shooting equipment problems;
• Maintain relevant information on company intranet page, IceLink. This may include: Deicing start time; Holdover start (anti-ice) time; Deicing completed time; Vehicles in safe zones; Type of fluid applied; Areas of fluid applied; Vehicles use on aircraft; Aircraft condition; Remarks-any irregularities are noted (ex., odd request, delays, etc.);
• Conduct shift briefing/update with all deicing crewmembers prior to any deicing event commencing;
• Identify specific deicing areas to be used and ensure that all applicable operational and environmental systems are properly configured;
• Provide aircraft movement instructions to flight crew in accordance with airport approved procedures.
• In the event of an incident or accident, follow corporate published procedures;
• Ensure through verbal and visual means, that prior to an aircraft’s release, that all assist deicing equipment is away from the aircraft and within the designated safe zone area;
• Uphold and follow the duties related to de/anti-icing aircraft according to procedures for both airlines and Inland/IDS;
• Work cooperatively with all team members and external stakeholders involved in the completion of assigned duties;
• Promote the best interest of the company by fostering goodwill and support between Inland/IDS and its customers ensuring that Inland’s policy of superior service and satisfaction are met;
• Understand and promote the Company’s mission statement, values and strategic goals;
• Foster a team environment and create a “group culture”;
• Drive and maintain a high level of efficiency and productivity;
• Ensure that Inland is compliant with all Government Labour, Health and Safety laws, regulations and policies;
• Abide by Inland’s procedural handbooks, operational plans, and directives of management to ensure that all work is done according to specifications and/or regulations;
• Uphold and follow the duties related to traffic management according to procedures for both airlines and Inland/IDS;
• Pad Coordinator must monitor Iceman and Icehouse frequencies at all times and to direct traffic that needs to cross the Central De-icing Facility (CDF);
• To accomplish any other tasks that may, from time to time, be assigned by management.

Required Skills And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Must be at least 18 years old;
• Vast experience in the field of aircraft and/or operations;
• Successful completion of all classroom and on-the-job training;
• Flexible schedule;
• Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft programs and the ability to use Inland’s
• independent computer program “Ice Link – Aircraft Ground De-icing Management System”;
• The ability to use an iPad and/or laptop;
• Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills;
• Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively;
• Ability to work as part of a team;
• Ability to maintain a positive and good-natured attitude;
• Ability to remain calm and perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints.

Certifications/Licenses

• Valid driver’s license;
• Valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC);
• Valid Radio Operator Certificate-Aeronautical (ROC-A) license;
• Air traffic control license, flight dispatcher certificate, apron control certificate, flight services specialist
• certificate, AVOP, or commercial pilots license considered an asset.

Work Environment

The Pad Coordinator will have a mixture or operational and office duties. Most of the job will be spent sitting in the Icehouse or in a vehicle for extended periods of time during inclement weather conditions. There may be exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions (wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and vibration). The noise level in the work environment can be excessive at times. There will be times when the Pad Coordinator will be required to work outside of their normal work schedule, so that we may meet the needs of our customers and/or operational requirements.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

• Positions may be full-time or part-time as determined by operational requirements;
• Some employees may be employed casually/on-call;
• Due to the seasonal nature of our business, and the direct impact of weather on our operation, hours of work are to be flexible with additional hours possibly required during certain weather events. Employees can expect to have shifts in part or in whole scheduled in any or all of the two functions for this position as outlined above.
