Job summary

The Inland Group of Companies is hiring an Aircraft De-icer to join our de-icing operations at YHZ in Halifax, NS. This full-time/seasonal role focuses on safely operating aircraft de-icing trucks during winter weather to support timely departures.

As part of a close-knit team, you will follow established procedures, perform routine equipment checks, complete paperwork, and communicate clearly with pilots and ground crew while upholding safety and efficiency standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use a laptop/iPad.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and communicate efficiently in English.
  • Valid driver's license (Class 3 considered an asset).
  • Clean driver's abstract.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a RAIC.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an AVOP.

Responsibilities

  • Operate aircraft de-icing trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Follow procedures for de-icing and pre-planning activities.
  • Operate near airfield personnel and aircraft with safety awareness.
  • Complete paperwork and maintain logs accurately.
  • Communicate clearly with pilots, de-icing operators, and ground staff.
  • Ensure proper shutdown of equipment and report maintenance needs.
  • Inspect de-icing fluids and perform daily vehicle checks.
  • Support other areas of the business as required.
  • Take on additional tasks as assigned by management.

Position Overview

The Aircraft De-icer, reporting to the Deicing Operations Manager, will work as part of a team to safely and efficiently operate aircraft de-icing trucks for the purpose of de-icing aircraft during inclement weather while ensuring the well-being of self and all internal and external stakeholders.

Location: YHZ - 270 Goudey Dr, Goffs, NS B2T 1M6

Essential Duties And Responsibilities (Including But Not Limited To)
  • Uphold and follow the duties related to de/anti-icing aircraft according to procedures for both airlines and participate in pre-planning for de/anti-icing and ADF recovery events by performing checks on equipment and servicing equipment with fuel or glycol;
  • Operate equipment within close proximity to airfield personnel, aircraft and other airfield equipment safely and efficiently;
  • Be alert and aware of other apron traffic, and to only begin de-icing when it can be done safely without interfering with aircraft movement. AIRCRAFT ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY;
  • Promptly and accurately complete all associated paperwork as required;
  • Professionally communicate with aircraft operators (pilots), spraying operators, GRV operators, and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner via two-way radio;
  • Ensure proper shutdown of pads, including paperwork and logbooks; that all maintenance issues have been logged and reported to maintenance and all proper shutdown procedures for the equipment are followed;
  • Testing of aircraft de-icing fluids as required;
  • Perform daily Vehicle walk-around inspections utilizing appropriate checklists;
  • Promote the best interests of the company by fostering goodwill and support between IDS and its customers, ensuring Inland's policy of superior service and satisfaction are met;
  • Provide support to other areas of the business, including within the fluid processing facility, when required
  • Accomplish any other tasks that may, from time to time, be assigned by management
Required Skills And Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Minimum 18 years of age;
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use a laptop/iPad
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs

  • Valid driver's license (Class 3 considered an asset)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP)

  • Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions
  • Must have ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to 20 pounds regularly; occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform all operational requirements
  • Must be comfortable working in a confined space for extended periods of time
  • Must be comfortable working at heights
