Responsibilities

  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and coordinate safety initiatives.
  • Coordinate production schedules with sales teams to ensure on-time order fulfillment and shipping.
  • Oversee weekly inventory counts of materials and supplies, ensure accurate records and replenishment.
  • Supervise quality control inspections and implement corrective actions for deviations.
  • Direct and monitor equipment operation to optimize performance and minimize downtime.
  • Manage shipping and receiving activities with accurate labeling and documentation.

About The Role.

The Packing Shed Coordinator is responsible for organizing and supervising daily operations within the packing shed. This role ensures efficient, safe, and accurate packing and shipment of fresh potatoes, strict adherence to food safety and quality standards, and effective communication between teams. The coordinator works closely with supervisors, staff, and logistics teams, balancing hands-on and administrative responsibilities.

What You’ll Be Doing.
  • Drive operational efficiency and productivity within the packing facility, ensuring processes consistently meet or exceed customer requirements and quality standards.
  • Support supervisors in managing hourly employees, including monitoring performance and attendance, directing daily work assignments, and providing training for new hires and cross-functional tasks.
  • Actively participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and collaborate with the Health & Safety Lead to support comprehensive staff training and adherence to safety initiatives and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with sales teams to optimize production schedules and help ensure timely, accurate order fulfillment and on-time shipping.
  • Oversee weekly inventory counts of packaging materials, pallets, and other relevant supplies, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely replenishment.
  • Supervise quality control inspections and promptly address deviations by implementing corrective actions to maintain product integrity.
  • Direct and monitor equipment adjustments and operation, including sizers, washers, and scales, to support optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Manage shipping and receiving activities, verifying outgoing shipments are accurately identified, labeled, and documented according to company and customer specifications.
  • Oversee daily and preventative cleaning and maintenance programs for facility equipment, ensuring reliability and compliance with safety standards.
  • Coordinate potato storage facility filling and monitoring while maintaining optimal storage conditions and accurate inventory records.
  • Organize and manage daily procurement and movement of raw materials from grower storage to the packing shed to support customer orders efficiently.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful.
  • Experience in the growing or packing of fresh potatoes, or a background in agriculture, would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to use basic technology such as databases, spreadsheets, and inventory management systems.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
  • A safety-first mindset to complement and help drive our safety program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Flexibility to work beyond normal hours due to production and shipping needs, including some weekend work.
About The Team.

This role is part of McCain’s Agriculture team in Summerside, supporting fresh potato packing operations. The Packing Shed Coordinator works closely with the Packing Shed Supervisor, hourly employees, sales, logistics, growers, and quality and safety partners to keep daily production, shipping, and storage activities running smoothly.

Compensation Package: Starting at $24.00 CAD hourly.
