Job summary

Sleeman Breweries Ltd. is seeking a Packaging Supervisor to lead a team in Vernon, BC. This one-year contract covers packaging operations across bottling, canning, and kegging, focusing on safety, quality, and production efficiency.

The role reports to Production Manager and requires strong leadership, unionized manufacturing experience, and dedication to continuous improvement in a dynamic brewery setting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in a unionized environment.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance, food safety, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive employee engagement.
  • Experience in safety leadership, including audits, investigations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to present and influence.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with maintenance systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of 6-25 employees, providing coaching, training, and performance management to drive engagement and productivity.
  • Identify training needs and partner with HR and leadership to deliver effective development plans.
  • Maintain a safe workplace through audits, toolbox talks, and team safety meetings.
  • Lead incident investigations and partner with Health & Safety to implement corrective actions and improvements.
  • Coordinate labour, materials, and equipment to achieve production schedules safely and on time.
  • Support operations across canning, bottling, kegging, sanitation, and repack to ensure efficiency and flexibility.
  • Monitor production to ensure adherence to quality standards and resolve issues with the Quality Assurance team.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and operational performance.
  • Partner with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability using root cause analysis.

Purpose and Impact

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for leading a team to deliver high-quality packaged beer across bottling, canning, and kegging operations. This role ensures production schedules are met safely, efficiently, and in alignment with quality and food safety standards. The supervisor plays a key role in fostering a safe, engaged, and high-performing team while driving continuous improvement initiatives

Responsibilities
  • People Leadership & Performance Management:

  • Supervise and support a team of 6-25 employees, providing coaching, training, and performance management to drive engagement and productivity.

  • Identifytraining needs and partner with HR and leadership to deliver effective development plans.

  • Safety & Compliance:

  • Maintain a safe workplace through audits, toolbox talks, and team safety meetings.

  • Lead incident investigations and partner with Health & Safety to implement corrective actions and improvements.

  • Production & Operations Execution:

  • Coordinate labour, materials, and equipment to achieve production schedules safely and on time.

  • Support operations across canning, bottling, kegging, sanitation, and repack to ensure efficiency and flexibility.

  • Quality & Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor production to ensure adherence to quality standards and resolve issues with the Quality Assurance team.

  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and operational performance.

  • Equipment Reliability & Collaboration:

  • Partner with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability using root cause analysis.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with brewing, warehouse, and maintenance to support seamless operations.

Skills and Qualifications (Required)
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in a unionized environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent

  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance, food safety, and good manufacturing practices

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive employee engagement

  • Experience in safety leadership, including audits, investigations, and compliance with regulations

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to present and influence

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Work Environment (Hybrid/Onsite)

Onsite - This role operates primarily within a manufacturing environment, with approximately 80% of time spent on the production floor and 20% in an office setting. Rotating shifts are required, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in production areas.

This is a contract position to back fill for a one year contract
