Job description

This position involves physical loading, unloading, and manual sorting of parcels, including lifting, pushing, pulling, transporting, and placing items safely and efficiently. Package Handlers (PH) may be assigned or rotate through various zones and roles such as loader, unloaders, palletizer, scanner, weighing, SWAK, quality assurance, faceer, switcher, etc.

Additional responsibilities for specific PH roles include training new handlers, inspecting air cargo, and handling restricted or ORM-D materials, with the necessary training provided.

Essential Functions

• Use the "hand-surface" method for parcel handling.
• Load and unload parcels from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts, and loading grids.
• Continuously lift, transport, push, and pull parcels for about 3 to 5 hours, possibly working multiple shifts daily.
• Scan, label, verify, and sort parcels according to system instructions.
• Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

Additional PH Responsibilities

• Train new PHs on efficient handling techniques.
• Provide feedback and ensure safety standards are met.
• Assist in implementing new procedures and techniques.

Air Cargo Specific Functions

• Scan parcels in the air transport consolidation zone and inspect for hazardous materials.
• Load parcels into unit load devices and complete related notifications.

Qualifications

No formal education or experience required; prior experience with FedEx is preferred for trainer and air roles.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Good numerical and sorting skills.
• Use of basic tools and equipment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver’s license and DOT record for equipment operators.

Work Conditions

• Work in hot, cold, and noisy environments.
• Lift between 5 and 50 pounds.
• No travel required.

Part-time shift: Wednesday to Friday, 11:00 am to 6:30 pm.
