Codiac Transpo in Moncton, NB, seeks a Licensed Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair a growing fleet of transit buses. This is a permanent, full-time unionized role under ATU Local 1290, with shift premiums for evenings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Must have Truck & Transport (T&T) Mechanic certification or Red Seal equivalent.
• Experience with diesel buses and related equipment is an asset; welding is an asset.
• Ability to diagnose, maintain, and repair transit buses and associated systems.

LICENSED MECHANIC

JOB SUMMARY:

This position plays a key role in keeping Codiac Transpo’s transit system running smoothly by inspecting, maintaining, and repairing urban transit buses and related equipment. The role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring vehicles meet safety and performance standards.

It's a hands-on role suited for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, and values contributing to a reliable and sustainable public transit system.

Rate of Pay: $39.69/hour and will increase to $42.87/h in 6 months. Annual increases thereafter.
Hours: Monday to Friday (40 hours/week) shift premium for evening shifts

EDUCATION:

• HighSchoolgraduateorequivalency.
• MusthaveaCertificateofQualificationinTruck&Transport(T&T)Mechanicissuedby the New Brunswick Department of Labour, or Red Seal equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience as a mechanic on diesel powered buses and related equipment and/or vehicles is an asset.
• Trainingandexperienceintroubleshooting,maintainingandrepairinghighwayorcity buses would be a definite asset.
• Experience rebuilding Diesel engines, fully and partial, preferably with Cummins.
• Welding experience will be considered an asset.
• Experience working on differentials, drivelines, electrical, air conditioning, HVAC, etc... is an asset.

LANGUAGE:

• Englishessential.TheabilitytocommunicateinFrenchisanasset,butnota requirement.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLSAND ABILITIES:

• Mustbeabletowriteneat,accurateandconcisereports.
• MustbeknowledgeableoftheNewBrunswickOccupationalHealthandSafetyAct.
• MustbecertifiedinWorkplaceHazardousMaterialsInformationSystems(WHMIS)within the probationary period
• Basiccomputerknowledgeisarequirement.
• WillberequiredtolearntoinputandmanipulatedataontheFleetMaintenanceSystem.
• Diagnosticanalysisofvehicles,engines,andequipmentisrequired.

SUPERVISION:

• This position normally works under direct supervision; however, the employee will be required to make decisions relevant to their work.
• Notasupervisoryposition,buttheremaybearequirementtooverseeapprenticesor students.

CONDITIONSOF WORK:

• Work requires a moderate level of concentration continuously, peaking at times, and a highlevelofmental-sensoryco-ordination.Workalsorequiresmoderatetoconsiderable physical effort. Fair to poor working environment with at least one, and usually several disagreeable conditions. Work hazards are moderate.May require on or off site in inclement weather conditions as required.
• Mustbephysicallyabletoperformthedutiesassigned.
