Job summary

IKO Industries Ltd. is seeking an Oxidizer Helper on a 1-year fixed-term contract to join our Calgary, Alberta team. You will support Oxidizer Operators and assist with daily tasks while upholding safety rules and quality standards.

The role includes operating a forklift, completing safety checks, and recording production data. Shift rotations are 12-hour days and nights, including weekends, with a focus on a safe, efficient workplace.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to read basic measurement tools and follow work instructions.
  • Experience in heavy-industrial manufacturing or similar industry preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year counter-balance forklift experience.
  • Able to work in dusty environments.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Complete health & safety pre-start checklists for tasks.
  • Assist with daily operations checklists and SOCs.
  • Assist the Oxidizer Operator to ensure equipment runs to standard; report deficiencies.
  • Monitor and record readings; notify when out of range.
  • Assist in ensuring products meet quality specifications.
  • Document quality checks regularly.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Document production numbers and downtime in systems.
  • Conduct housekeeping of the area and trailer.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Job Description

We are currently seeking an Oxidizer Helper for a 1 year Fixed Term contract to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.

Reporting to the Production Specialist, the primary role and responsibility of an Oxidizer Helper is to assist our operators in their day to day tasks while respecting the company’s safety rules and regulations ultimately creating a safe and orderly workplace. Shift structure consists of 12hr shifts on rotation between days and nights including weekends.

Job Description

The Oxidizer Helper is a one-year Fixed-Term contract to provide support to the Oxidizer Operator.

Wage: IKO Calgary General Labour Rate ($28.18)

Description:
  • Adhere to all IKO’s Safety policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Complete all Health & Safety pre-start checklists for operational tasks.
  • Assist with the completion of daily operations checklists and SOCs.
  • Assist the Oxidizer Operator in daily operational tasks to ensure equipment is running up to standard. Notify any deficiencies to the Oxidizer Operator and assist him/her during corrective actions.
  • Monitor and record readings on operating equipment and notify the Oxidizer Operator when readings are out of range.
  • Assist Oxidizer operator in monitoring and ensuring products being produced meet established quality specifications.
  • Document quality checks at regular intervals.
  • Operate counterbalance or propane-powered forklift.
  • Document production numbers and items contributing to down-times (using a computerized system, as well as hand-written production reports)
  • Conduct general housekeeping duties of the area and trailer.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications:
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and follow instructions.
  • Ability to read basic measurement tools and ability to read and follow proper work instructions.
  • Previous experience in heavy-industrial manufacturing, construction, or similar industry preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of counter-balance forklift operating experience (Recommended)
  • Comfortable with working in a dusty environment
  • Manual dexterity
  • Attention to detail
  • Fluent in verbal and written English
Requirements:
  • Ability to safely perform heavy lifting up to 50 pounds on a routine basis
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Ability to operate a pallet jack to move material
  • Ability to regularly stand and use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off.
  • Must be flexible; able to work other shifts, overtime and weekends when needed
