Job summary

Life’s Journey Inc. is seeking an Overnight Drop-In Support Mentor for Brandon, MB. The role supports participants at the warming shelter during night shifts, providing direct care, crisis response, and collaboration with the care team.

Qualified candidates will have post-secondary social services education, appropriate checks, and First Aid, with a focus on harm reduction and professional conduct within a nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory Child and Adult Abuse Registry check.
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector search).
• Certification of First Aid Level 1 – Emergency & CPR.
• Ability to attend work regularly as scheduled.
• Ability to establish effective professional relationships and boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to participants accessing the warming shelter.
• Build a friendly, supportive relationship with participants.
• Assist participants during meetings with collateral agencies as a professional representative.
• Respond to crisis situations and emergencies.
• Ensure safety and supervision in identified risk areas as per support plans.
• Follow policies for on-duty cellular phone and panic button.
• Complete general housekeeping duties and maintain cleanliness.
• Ensure participants take their belongings upon exit from the shelter.
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions as requested.
• Report developments or incidents to the Shelter Care Team or Clinical Case Manager.
• Provide a positive role model and mentor newer staff.
• Maintain accurate documentation of daily shift occurrences.
• Communicate with colleagues using the staff log and Payworks time entry.
