Job summary

YWCA Alder Gardens in Surrey, BC is recruiting an Outreach Worker to support women and families as they transition from emergency or transitional housing to safe, stable, and independent living. The role emphasizes empowerment through ongoing support, advocacy, and connections to community resources.

The position involves intake, emotional support, information/referrals, safety and goal planning, and advocacy with government and community agencies.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting women who have experienced violence from an intimate partner.
  • Feminist analysis of violence against women by an intimate partner.
  • Understanding of the intersection of oppressions.
  • Strong knowledge of the criminal and family justice systems.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and other organizations.
  • Knowledge of Fraser Valley resources would be an asset.
  • A clear criminal record check including working with vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Intake with clients, including needs assessment.
  • Provide one-to-one emotional support.
  • Provide appropriate information and referrals.
  • Provide assistance with safety planning.
  • Provide assistance with goal planning (educational and employment goals).
  • Provide advocacy with government and community agencies per practice/policy.
  • Provide information on navigating the family justice system, including referrals to legal aid and accompaniment to legal appointments and court.
  • Provide information about the criminal justice system.
  • Liaise with government and other community agencies.
  • Keep accurate records, files and statistical information per practice/policy.
  • Other duties as required (always include at the end of responsibilities section).
