Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking a CCH Outdoor School Counsellor for Winter 2027, Exshaw, Alberta. The role runs Feb 22, 2027 to Apr 23, 2027 with potential extension. Responsibilities include leading outdoor activities, risk management, and creating a positive learning environment for campers.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children to facilitate inclusion within outdoor programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider.
• Wilderness First Aid, Paddle Canada canoe instructor and challenge course facilitation certificates are assets.
• Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
• Three professional references.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a collaborative team to support all campers and staff.
• Be responsible for risk management and participant comfort in the outdoors.
• Support group development and create a positive learning environment for all campers.
• Lead day hikes or overnight trips when season permits.
• Maintain safe and clean environments and effective communication with peers and clients.
• Represent YMCA Calgary professionally internally and with the broader community.
