Job summary

Miller Waste Systems in Ottawa, ON is seeking a DZ Driver/Picker to safely collect residential waste streams, including yard waste, blue box, green bin, and garbage, while delivering courteous service and complying with safety and municipal regulations.

This permanent full-time position starts immediately, with a Monday–Friday schedule at 6:30am. A valid DZ license and clean driving record are required, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate multiple waste streams.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to collection and delivery schedules to transfer stations, compost facilities or landfills.
• Follow safety policies and municipal/environmental regulations.
• Return receptacles to residents' property, placed at curb or same location as removed from.
• Lift and load bags or cans up to 50 lbs into hopper of a 2-person truck or side loader of a 1-person truck.
• Make in excess of 800 residential stops per day.

Reporting To: Route Supervisor

Start Date: Immediately

Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:30am start

Compensation: $33.01 per hour

The DZ Driver/Picker at Miller Waste Systems is responsible for the safe, timely collection of residential waste streams, including yard waste, recycling, and garbage. This role ensures proper waste disposal in compliance with safety, environmental, and municipal regulations while delivering courteous and reliable service to the community.

• Be responsible for various waste stream Residential Collections.
• This may include Yard Waste Collection, Blue Box and/or Green Bin Collection and Residential Garbage Collection.
• Provide customers with reliable and high-quality customer service as the proper disposal of the waste streams are vital to the health and well-being of the residents of the community that you are servicing.
• Adhere to the collection and delivery schedule to ensure all collected various waste streams are to be delivered to local Transfer Stations, Compost Facilities or Landfill Sites in an efficient and appropriate manner.
• Follow all relevant policies and procedures of the Company, the MTO, Ministry of Environment as well as the by-laws of the Municipality in which you are working. Failure to adhere to safety policies and procedures may lead to property damage, injury, or loss of life.
• Work with employees, management, resident and members of the public in a polite and respectful manner at all times.
• All waste receptacles that are emptied into the collection vehicle must be placed back on the resident’s property, flipped upside down at the curb, in the same place that they were removed from.
• Lift and load garbage bags or cans weighing up to 50 lbs. from the ground into the hopper of a 2-person truck or into a side loader of a 1-person truck.
• Make in excess of 800 residential stops per day.

• Successful candidates will have a valid DZ Driver’s Licence.
• Clean Driver’s Abstract and no preventable accidents in the past year.
• Minimum 1 years’ experience on each type of equipment is considered an asset.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Flexibility with your work schedule is necessary as start and end times may vary. Saturdays, weekends and Statutory Holidays will be required at times.
• Effective written and verbal communication is required.
