Job summary

Finning Canada is seeking a hands-on Shop Supervisor to lead a new assembly-focused operation in Red Deer. You will shape processes, build a high‑performing team, and establish an Electric Power Packaging Facility prioritizing safety, quality, and operational excellence.

As a collaborative leader, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced startup environment within an established company, solving problems and rolling up your sleeves as needed. This role begins on a 5x2 schedule and shifts toward a 7x7 cycle.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson certification in a related trade is required.
• Proven leadership experience with team development.
• Strong safety mindset and ability to enforce safe work practices.
• Experience in power generation, assembly, fabrication, or service ops is preferred.
• Strong organizational and priority-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of up to 30 technicians with focus on safety and continuous improvement.
• Champion safety through daily meetings, inspections and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to meet customer requirements and drive efficiency.
• Coordinate work orders, manpower, and resolve customer/supplier issues.
• Drive quality by ensuring first-time-right work and removing barriers.

Job Description:

What You’ll Do:

• Lead and develop a team of up to 30 technicians, creating a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Champion safety through daily meetings, hazard assessments, inspections, regulatory compliance and adherence to company policies and procedures
• Collaborate with other stakeholders to successfully execute operations and meet customer requirements
• Coordinate work orders, manpower, resolution of customer and supplier issues
• Drive quality and productivity by ensuring work is completed right the first time, monitoring work progress and removing barriers to success

What You'll Bring:

• Journeyperson certification in Heavy Equipment, Electrical, Millwright, or a related trade
• Proven leadership experience with a passion for developing and engaging teams
• Strong safety mindset with experience leading safe work practices in an industrial or shop environment
• Experience in electric power generation, reciprocating engines, assembly, fabrication, manufacturing or service operations
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to solve problems and think creatively in a startup environment
• Business acumen and experience managing productivity, quality and operation performance

Important Details:

• This position is based in Red Deer on a 7x7 continuous shift, but will start on a 5x2 (Monday – Friday) shift
