Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in food science or microbiology.
  • Broad knowledge of microbiology or chemistry for data analysis.

Responsibilities

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE

We are looking for an Operations Supervisor at #106-8255 North Fraser Way, Burnaby, BC V3N 0B9, CAN. Your mission will be to:

Purpose (Objective):

The incumbent is responsible for analyzing food samples and supervising departmental personnel conducting routine analysis.

Main activities:
  • Supervise departmental personnel to ensure operations follow Standard Operating Procedures and assigned tasks.
  • Communicate client requirements and procedural or operational issues to relevant personnel or clients.
  • Read, calculate, record analysis data, and prepare reports, correcting discrepancies as needed.
  • Administer HR programs related to recruitment, retention, training, performance appraisal, and employment records.
  • Educate and train staff on procedures and new methods; evaluate and suggest modifications to current methods.
  • Arrange work schedules to ensure timely and efficient analysis.
  • Assist with analysis tasks to ensure timely results.
  • Maintain supplies and instrumentation.
  • Have the authority to cease analyses if quality issues are detected.
  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and ensure staff are trained.
  • Stay updated in the field of food science through seminars and reading.
  • Support quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Initiate actions to prevent departures from quality standards, addressing resource needs as necessary.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.
YOUR PROFILE

Knowledge: Basic microbiology knowledge for testing accuracy.

Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree with 2-5 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree. Broad knowledge of microbiology or chemistry is required for data analysis and interpretation. Knowledge of food science is necessary for supervising sample analysis.

Skills: Understanding of laboratory safety procedures and policies, and familiarity with LIMS for processing data and results.

Work Environment:

Laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasionally exposed to fumes, chemicals, and materials. Use of safety equipment may be required. Daily use of autoclave and lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. Extended standing and color variation detection are expected.

The pay range is $70,000-$80,000 CAD annually.
