Job summary

Metro Supply Chain in Mississauga is seeking an Operations Manager (Manufacturing/Production) to lead the Co-pack department, coordinating production supervision, maintenance, inventory and admin teams across 3 shifts, and ensure on-time schedules within cost and margin targets.

You will drive continuous improvement, manage KPIs, labour efficiency, safety, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements while maintaining quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education with a focus on operations management, materials management.
  • Ten (10) years production or manufacturing experience (some in a 3PL environment).
  • Five (5) years of managerial experience.
  • Lean manufacturing and/or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience with Automation Packaging Equipment (scales, baggers, laser coders, conveyors, cartoners).
  • Engineering degree/background with a process mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee production supervision, maintenance, inventory and admin teams across 3 shifts.
  • Coordinate work schedule, labor, space, supplies, and equipment for contract packaging projects.
  • Manage KPIs, analyze plant profitability and implement margin improvements.
  • Develop and implement line drawings, reconfigure staff duties to maximize labor efficiency.

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role has primary accountability for overseeing and managing all the activities that occurs within the Co-pack department. Responsible for management, direction and implementation of strategies and objectives to ensure company goals and on time completion of production schedules are within cost, quality, and gross margin standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee production supervision, maintenance, inventory and admin teams across 3 shifts.
  • Responsible for the success of the operation ensuring adherence to business plans and customer goals.
  • Coordinates work schedule, labor, space, supplies, and equipment for all contract packaging projects to ensure required goals are achieved
  • Provides shared services team with initial time study estimates on new displays, review estimates for completeness and accuracy while and understanding of scope of work to quote
  • Work closely with Co-pack operations to provide analysis and support in the oversight of production efficiencies
  • Develops and implements engineered line drawings by itemizing all tasks and reconfigures staff line duties to maximize labour efficiency
  • Manages key performance indicators, Analyze plant / customer profitability and margin improvement initiatives
  • Provides oversight and input for labour reconciliations, monthly invoicing and validation to shared services
  • Using excel, create tools, productivity models, and analysis that measure facility performance to assist management in understanding results
  • Provide production analysis and keep management aware of all activities that are not in compliance
  • Perform daily Co-pack meetings for finished product quality, production speed, labor utilized, space used, and raw materials inventory
  • Oversees Co-pack operations, while ensuring established operational procedures are being followed according to company standards to effectively meet/exceed customer requirements.
  • Train employees, obtain performance results, organize and assign work, and maintain productive, safe and motivating environment
  • Health & Safety management–ensure operations procedures, equipment and facilities are in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Support on-site client with on-going project and data collection of performance measurements
  • Manage resources–equipment and assets and develop control tools that ensure accountability
  • Assist in preparation and review of capital expenditure requests
  • Responsible for the success of the operation ensuring adherence to business plans and budgets.
  • Works closely with warehouse operations, while ensuring established operational procedures are being followed according to company standards to effectively meet/exceed customer requirements.
  • Establishes budgets for the facility and implements controls necessary to keep expenditures within budgetary limitations.
  • Ensure accuracy of Bi-Support tools are maintained (Daily, Mid Bi-Monthly, Monthly & Quarterly)
  • Assumes additional related responsibilities as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Post secondary education with a focus on operations management, materials management
  • Ten (10) years production or manufacturing experience (some of which in a 3PL environment)
  • Five (5) years of managerial experience
  • Lean manufacturing and/or Lean Six Sigma
  • Working and Hands-on experience for 3-5 Years in High Volume /High labour intensive Food Manufacturing Environment as a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager etc.
  • Working experience and strong understanding of Automation Packaging Equipment such as Scales/Baggers, Laser Coders, Conveyers, Cartoners etc. for automated Packing Solutions.
  • Engineering Degree/Background in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical with a Process Oriented Mindset / demonstration of results.
  • Experience Leading Maintenance Team through Problem Solving, Loss Elimination, Maintenance KPIs, CI Initiatives, Changeover Optimization , OEE Improvements, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions.
