Job summary

Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) in Kerwood, Ontario, seeks an Operations Manager to drive elevator performance, safety, and quality control across incoming and outgoing shipments.

You will supervise the Grain & Crop Inputs division's elevator operations, lead a small team, and partner with procurement and maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role demands hands-on leadership and strong problem-solving in a farm-to-table supply chain context.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating a grain elevator.
• Comprehensive knowledge of grain industry processes, grading, storage.
• Practical knowledge in mechanical repair.
• Experience in supervising a team and fostering safety.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily elevator operations to ensure efficiency and safety.
• Manage quality control and blending of grain and oversee shipments.
• Supervise facility staff to meet business needs safely and profitably.
• Maintain facility safety program and promote a strong safety culture.
• Ensure food safety compliance and equipment maintenance schedules.
• Support grain procurement and crop inputs sales as needed.
• Uphold consistent adherence to business practices.

The Role

As Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in managing the overall performance, maintenance, and repair of the elevator. The Operations Manager will oversee quality control measures on incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring the maintenance and compliance of a safe working environment.

Day to Day

• Supervising the daily operation of the elevator
• Managing the quality control and blending of grain
• Supervising Facility Assistants to ensure business needs are executed safely, efficiently and profitably
• Managing the facility safety program and actively working to create a strong safety culture
• Overseeing food safety compliance
• Managing regular maintenance, scheduling and repair on facility equipment
• Supporting the procurement of grain and sales of crop inputs
• Ensure reasonable business practices are followed consistently

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the operation of a grain elevator
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the grain industry including grading factors, elevator equipment and processes, and effective product storage management
• Practical knowledge in mechanical repair
• Experience in team management or supervision, demonstrating effective leadership abilities
• Proficient computer skills with aptitude for learning and adapting to new software applications
