Job summary

Maibec CanExel siding plant in East River, Nova Scotia, is seeking an Operations Manager to lead our CanExel engineered wood siding manufacturing operations. You will drive safety, production, quality, cost, and customer service objectives while shaping high-performing teams and advancing continuous improvement initiatives.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will oversee daily manufacturing operations, develop supervisors, manage budgets, and collaborate across departments to achieve

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and company standards.
  • Lead daily manufacturing operations to achieve production, quality, cost, and performance targets.
  • Develop, coach, and support supervisors and production teams to maximize engagement and results.
  • Monitor KPIs and implement improvements that enhance productivity, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, and HR to achieve operational objectives.
  • Lead workforce planning, including recruitment, training, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources to meet operational and financial goals.
  • Lead capital projects, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate operational issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Serve as a key member of the plant leadership team and support continuous manufacturing operations.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager provides leadership and direction for our Maibec CanExel engineered wood siding manufacturing operations in East River, Nova Scotia. This role is responsible for achieving production, safety, quality, cost, and customer service objectives while developing high-performing teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives that support Maibec's long-term success.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, quality, and company standards.
  • Lead daily manufacturing operations to achieve production, quality, cost, and performance targets.
  • Develop, coach, and support supervisors and production teams to maximize engagement, accountability, and results.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and implement improvements that enhance productivity, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, and Human Resources to achieve operational objectives.
  • Lead workforce planning activities, including recruitment, training, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources to meet operational and financial goals.
  • Lead capital projects, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate operational issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Serve as a key member of the plant leadership team and contribute to the overall success of the operation.
  • Provide leadership support for a continuous manufacturing operation, including availability outside regular business hours to address operational, safety, employee, or equipment-related issues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading supervisors, production teams, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement experience is considered an asset.
Skills
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing operations, continuous improvement, and operational best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, operational performance, and business priorities.
  • Ability to lead change, drive results, and build collaborative relationships across the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems.
