Job summary

The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba in Brandon invites an Operations Manager to oversee daily gallery operations, facilities, safety, and exhibition logistics, working closely with artists, curators, and staff.

Ideal candidate has arts administration education or equivalent experience, with at least three years in gallery or facilities management, and a hands-on approach to installations and event support.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in gallery, museum, or facilities management.
  • Experience coordinating exhibits, events, or contractors.
  • Ability to perform hands-on tasks including lifting and climbing ladders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation, maintenance, safety, and security of gallery spaces.
  • Coordinate facility use, rentals, schedules, and contractors.
  • Support exhibition preparation, installation, deinstallation, and shipping.
  • Coordinate studio and classroom operations, supplies, equipment, and program schedules.
  • Collaborate with staff, artists, curators, and service providers to keep programs on track.
  • Identify operational needs and improve gallery space functionality.

Job description

Are you someone who enjoys variety and takes a hands-on approach? Help shape the day-to-day operations of a vibrant art gallery! As Operations Manager, you’ll oversee facilities, exhibitions, equipment and gallery operations while working closely with the team, with opportunities to support everything from facility maintenance to exhibition installations.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, safety and security of Gallery facilities and spaces
  • Coordinate facility use, rentals, schedules, contractors and operational services
  • Support exhibition preparation, installation, deinstallation, artwork handling and shipping
  • Coordinate studio and classroom operations, supplies, equipment and program schedules
  • Work closely with Gallery staff, artists, curators, contractors and service providers to keep exhibitions and programs on track
  • Identify operational needs and help improve the functionality and use of Gallery spaces
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • Post-secondary education in arts administration, museum studies, business, operations management or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in gallery, museum, cultural, facilities or operations management
  • Experience coordinating facilities, exhibitions, events, contractors or multiple projects
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Practical knowledge of tools, equipment, facility operations or exhibition preparation is an asset
  • Ability to perform hands-on work, including lifting, climbing ladders and supporting exhibition installations
