Job summary

The City of Brampton is seeking an Operations Maintenance Inspector at Williams Parkway Operations Centre. This permanent full-time role requires a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills to plan field investigations for city road inspections and address hazardous conditions.

You will document deficiencies under MMS O.Reg.239/02, support road classification, and create work orders while coordinating with internal departments and external agencies for restoration.

Qualifications

  • The candidate has at least a high school diploma with 1–2 years in Civil Engineering Technician or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of related experience is required.
  • Membership or eligibility for OACETT is required.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Drivers Licence (non-probationary).
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule field investigations for City road inspections.
  • Identify, measure, and document deficiencies under MMS O.Reg.239/02 and coordinate repairs.
  • Assist with maintaining the road classification system.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on patrolled routes and deficiencies.
  • Respond to service requests with timelines and customer service focus.
  • Investigate claims and appear at related proceedings as required.
  • Create work orders and diagrams for road repairs.
  • Coordinate restoration with internal/external agencies and track progress.
  • Conduct condition assessments and preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Develop data collection programs for asset inventories.
  • Conduct winter maintenance field investigations with safety focus.
  • Monitor weather/road conditions to guide winter maintenance deployment.
  • Recommend corrective actions for contractors and ensure safety compliance.
  • Schedule, train, and evaluate Co-op students.

  • The candidate must plan and schedule field investigations for City road inspections and identify and resolve hazardous conditions found while patrolling assigned routes.
  • The candidate must identify, measure, and document deficiencies under the Minimum Maintenance Standard for Municipal Highways O.Reg.239/02, notify the appropriate personnel/departments, and ensure repairs follow quality standards.
  • The candidate must assist with the maintenance of the Corporation’s road classification system.
  • The candidate must maintain accurate and detailed records of inquiries, site visits, inspection and investigation records, trends, and inventory to prepare reports on patrolled routes, claims, and deficiency results.
  • The candidate will respond to internal and external inquiries related to service requests, communicate timelines, and ensure a resolution is reached while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • The candidate must investigate claims against the City and appear at discoveries and legal proceedings related to those claims.
  • The candidate will create work orders and supporting documentation, including diagrams, for the repair of utility cuts in the road allowance.
  • The candidate must work with internal departments and external agencies to coordinate work area restoration, track progress, and assess any additional restoration requirements.
  • The candidate will conduct condition assessments and preventative maintenance inspections of City road infrastructure and assets to aid in the collection of inventory statistics.
  • The candidate must develop data collection programs for various asset inventories.
  • The candidate will perform field investigations related to winter maintenance operations while ensuring a high level of public safety and customer service.
  • The candidate will monitor, record, and communicate weather and road conditions, including snow accumulation, air and pavement temperatures, and traffic volume, to assist in the appropriate deployment of winter maintenance activities.
  • The candidate will recommend corrective actions for contractors to maintain contractual performance levels of service.
  • The candidate must ensure contractor compliance with safety requirements, City policies, and procedures.
  • The candidate must schedule, train, and evaluate Co-op Students.
  • The candidate must perform other similar and related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • The candidate must have High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of over one (1) and up to two (2) years in Civil Engineering Technician or equivalent.
  • The candidate must have one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of related experience.
  • The candidate must have membership or the ability to obtain membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT).
  • The candidate must have a valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G Drivers Licence.
  • The candidate must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The candidate must have exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
