The Canadian Armed Forces seeks Operating Room Nursing Officers who provide critical nursing care in operating room settings. Successful candidates will lead patient care delivery, engage with multidisciplinary teams, and be part of both civilian and military healthcare environments, ensuring a high standard of care for CAF members and supported populations.
As a member of the military, Operating Room Nursing Officers provide nursing care in the operating room domain to ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and supported populations in tertiary and in-patient care environments in Canada and during operations. They serve in roles such as Scrub and Circulating Nurse and have experience in Medical Device Reprocessing.
Operating Room Nursing Officers work within a collaborative practice model with other healthcare team members and lead nursing care delivery within their area. They have opportunities to work in various domains, including:
They typically work in civilian hospitals, Canadian Forces Health Services Centres, operational units, training establishments, and headquarters. Work schedules may vary from shift work to a regular 40-hour week. Operating Room Nursing Officers are also called upon for exercises and emergencies, both domestic and international. During deployments, they live and work alongside CAF members in the field.
In the Regular Force, after training, you will be assigned to your first base, with potential relocations. In the Primary Reserve, you serve part-time in a designated unit, usually working one night per week and some weekends, with opportunities for full-time employment.

Following Lieutenant training, selected Nursing Officers undergo a formal operating room nursing course and certification, completed in a civilian tertiary care facility. The duration depends on prior clinical experience. Opportunities for further specialization include management and policy/program management courses.
