Job summary

Winland Foods, Inc. is seeking an Operating Engineer to operate, test and maintain boilers, air compressors, pumps and ancillary equipment at our Stoney Creek facility.

The role requires a flexible work week to provide seven day plant coverage, with some overtime and weekend rotation. Key duties include scheduling preventive and contract maintenance, logging work and failure causes, and collaborating with maintenance and manufacturing teams to keep utility and processing equipment running at

Qualifications

  • Licensed Operating Engineer 3rd Class is required.
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred.
  • Water/wastewater treatment plant certification an asset.
  • Food manufacturing experience an asset.
  • Experience with HVAC and non-ammonia cooling systems an asset.
  • Experience in troubleshooting utility equipment is a key skill.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Dependable with planning and organizational skills; able to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate steam boilers, compressors and ancillary equipment.
  • Proactively plan and schedule contract maintenance on utility equipment.
  • Perform preventive and emergency maintenance on steam and utility system components.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and manufacturing teams to ensure equipment runs at peak efficiency.
  • Log daily work effort and failure causes for prompt corrective actions.
  • Maintain powerhouse equipment records for a food processing facility.
  • Ongoing training on new equipment and maintenance practices is required.

Job description

To maintain the safe and efficient operation of powerhouse and plant utility equipment. The incumbent will be a member of a team operating, testing and maintaining boilers, air compressors, pumps and ancillary equipment. There is a requirement to work a flexible work week to enable seven day plant coverage. Some overtime may be required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Licensed Operating Engineer 3rd Class a MUST
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred
  • Water/wastewater treatment plant operator certification an asset
  • Food manufacturing experience an asset
  • Experience with HVAC systems and non- ammonia cooling systems an asset
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repair of utility equipment is a key skill
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Must be dependable, attention to detail, be computer literate, creative, and have planning and organizational skills
  • Must possess sound judgment and decision-making skills and be able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Candidate must show initiative and cooperate effectively in a multi-skilled environment.

Physical Activity / Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Bend/twist, push/pull as needed to complete work tasks
  • Work in a warm temperature during summer months
