Job description

Position: Structural Engineer - Pipe Support Design & Seismic Analysis (Nuclear)

Resume Due Date: September 21, 2026

Job ID: 109-018

Level: Senior

Hours of Work: 40 hours

Location: North York, Toronto, Ontario (client office). On-site or hybrid candidates local to the GTA preferred; remote candidates will be considered, provided they are available to travel to the North York office as needed.

Job Overview

The Structural Engineer will perform pipe support design and seismic qualification work for an operating nuclear generating station, in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Subsection NF, and Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) structural steel standards. The role involves seismically analyzing established pipe support designs steel framing members, bolted and welded connections, and attachments to steel-plated superstructure using GT STRUDL. This is a technical analysis role supporting an existing nuclear project’s commodity support design program, working from client-supplied drawings, loads, and seismic input data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform seismic analysis of established nuclear pipe support designs, steel framing members, bolted or welded connections, and attachments to steel-plated superstructure — in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III, Subsection NF.
  • Conduct structural analysis and support qualification using GT STRUDL.
  • Apply Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) structural steel section properties in analysis and design verification.
  • Evaluate standard vendor-supplied support components, determine component capacities, and document demand/capacity comparisons.
  • Interpret pipe support configuration drawings and apply client-provided pipe reaction loads and project-specific live loads to the analysis.
  • Incorporate piping and superstructure design temperatures, and account for thermal effects on pipe support material properties resulting from the piping and/or superstructure operating environment.
  • Develop seismic loading using client-provided In-Structure Response Spectra (ISRS) at superstructure attachment points, based on the site-specific Design Basis Earthquake (DBE).
  • Prepare clear, well-documented calculation packages and technical reports suitable for nuclear engineering QA record retention and client review.
  • Coordinate with the project engineering team to resolve technical queries related to support configurations, applied loads, and analysis assumptions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensure in Ontario, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience performing structural/seismic analysis of steel support structures pipe support experience in a nuclear power or other heavily regulated industrial environment strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Subsection NF (Rules for Construction of Nuclear Facility Component Supports).
  • Proficiency in GT STRUDL is required this is the analysis platform specified for this work; candidates should be able to speak to specific projects where they’ve used it in production.
  • Working knowledge of CISC structural steel design standards and section properties.
  • Experience with seismic qualification methodology, including application of In-Structure Response Spectra and Design Basis Earthquake criteria.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and piping support drawings.
  • Experience evaluating vendor‑supplied standard components and performing demand/capacity assessments.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, with experience producing calculation packages that meet nuclear engineering/QA record standards.
