Job summary

Electronic Arts in Vancouver is seeking an Online Software Engineer to maintain and extend the Connected UFC experience, including matchmaking, social features, live events, progression, real-time gameplay and cross-platform play.

The role offers a hybrid schedule (3 days per week at the EAV Studio in Burnaby, Tue-Thu) reporting to the Online Technical lead, with collaboration across design, engineering and production.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer developing online games or scalable online applications.
  • Proficiency in C++ and comfort with large-scale, real-time codebases.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with networked systems: client/server models, latency considerations.
  • Familiar with source control such as Git or Perforce.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools to prototype and accelerate workflows.

As an Online Software Engineer, you will help maintain and extend the systems that power our connected experience. These systems include matchmaking, social features, live events, progression, real-time gameplay and cross-platform play, serving hundreds of thousands of concurrent players. Your work will shape how players interact, form communities, and enjoy UFC together.

You will work in a hybrid model, 3 days a week out of our EAV Studio in Burnaby, British Columbia (Tuesday to Thursday) and will report to the Online Technical lead.

Responsibilities
  • Build the Connected UFC Experience. Work across client, backend, and data systems to deliver premium live-service features guided by real-world UFC moments to keep players connected and engaged.
  • Engineering Excellence for Scale. Maintain scalable systems to support global live service demands, while ensuring stability during peak player activity.
  • Collaborate Across Domains.Partner with designers, engineers, and production to build authentic and engaging online experiences. Integrate platform and shared technology services in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Innovate & Evolve. Refine features using live insights to keep the experience fresh and rewarding. Explore opportunities to use AI tools to improve development efficiency, automation, and testing workflows.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer developing online games or scalable online applications.
  • Proficiency in C++ and comfort working in large-scale, real-time codebases.
  • Experience working with database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
  • Experience with networked systems : client/server models, service integration, latency considerations, and multithreaded environments.
  • Familiar with source control such as Git or Perforce.
  • Collaborate across diverse teams and break down complex problems into clean, maintainable solutions.
  • Experience in utilizing AI-assisted development tools (e.g. coding agents) to rapid prototype, accelerate execution and automate workflows, with the ability to critically review and validate AI-generated code.
Pay Transparency - North America

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

PAY RANGES
  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria)
  • $104,500 - $142,800 CAD

For Canada, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and other incentive programs.
