Job summary

CBC Edmonton is seeking an experienced News Editor/Presenter for an on-site role in English Services. The editor will lead weekday afternoon newscasts for radio and digital platforms, coordinating with noon and afternoon programming and delivering timely, accurate news under tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate has a university journalism degree and a proven track record in live, fast-paced news environments, with strong on-air presence and script-editing skills.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in live and breaking news in a fast-paced, multiplatform news environment.
  • Strong ability to generate, pitch and pursue original story ideas.
  • Excellent critical thinking with knowledge of legal and ethical issues in journalism.
  • Engaging on-air presence with credible, authoritative delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, line up and deliver newscasts and news breaks.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news and coordinate cross-platform coverage.
  • Write and edit scripts; cut audio clips and package stories.
  • Conduct interviews on and off air; self-operate studio audio board during live newscasts.
  • Vet scripts and provide feedback to improve quality.
  • Report live and breaking news on-air with context and balance.
  • Present newscasts on other platforms (streaming, podcasts, digital, video).
