Job summary

Aplin in Vancouver hires a Fire Alarm Technician to provide on-site support for a commercial retail property. From the Operations Room, you monitor the fire alarm system and coordinate with on-site teams to manage alarms during construction and testing.

You will work with the security and trades teams, maintain logs, assist with testing and system changes, and ensure devices remain correctly enabled or disabled as required.

Qualifications

• Certification in CFAA or ASTTBC is required.
• 2+ years of experience in fire and life safety systems.
• Familiarity with Simplex TrueSite Incident Commander is an asset.
• Ability to read and interpret building drawings is an asset.
• Working knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes and standards.
• Strong communication skills and coordination with security staff, contractors and trades.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the fire alarm system for alarms, trouble and supervisory points from occupied areas, construction activity, and testing.
• Acknowledge alerts and determine whether the warning affects occupied or construction areas.
• Collaborate with trades and the fire alarm install team to make determinations.
• Communicate alerts and track construction-area alerts.
• Support fire alarm operation: bypass activation, deactivation, acknowledgment and reset, device disable/enable requests.
• Assist with testing: graphic verification, bypass changes and device status lookups.
• Maintain a log of outstanding alerts and a register of disabled devices.
