Job summary

Durham District School Board is seeking an on-call custodian to join our facilities team. You will perform cleaning and basic maintenance across school areas, with an afternoon shift from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday to Friday during the school year.

This role requires a Grade 12 diploma, 6–12 months training, and a current vulnerable sector check. You will work in a dynamic school environment, contributing to a clean, safe, and welcoming learning space for students and staff.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma.
• 6–12 months training.
• Provide a current Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Clean assigned areas including washrooms, showers and classrooms.
• Operate and maintain floor cleaning equipment.
• Monitor and report building maintenance needs.
• Assist with energy conservation by turning off lights and adjusting controls.
• Prepare spaces for events and after-hour use.
• Adhere to health and safety policies.
• Support with seasonal cleaning tasks as required.
• Receive and respond to inquiries courteously.
