Job summary

The Stop Community Food Centre in Toronto is seeking a Relief Worker to support the Drop-in, Food Bank and related programs on an on-call, casual basis. Work hours may include up to 8-hour shifts from 8:30am to 4:40pm, Monday to Friday, with immediate start.

You will join a team of staff and volunteers, provide courteous service, assist with records, food preparation, front desk intake, deliveries, and help enforce Stop policies.

Qualifications

  • 1 year experience in social services or volunteering.
  • Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of social services and community resources.
  • Experience with customer service and ability to work in a diverse community.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist drop-in, food bank, kitchen staff, cafe, admin and volunteers to ensure smooth daily operation.
  • Maintain daily records, logs and inventory; assist with cleaning and organization.
  • Assist with food and space preparations for meals and services.
  • Assist at food bank front desk with intake and administrative tasks.
  • Receive deliveries and store items appropriately.
  • Ensure programming follows Stop policies and values.
  • Provide directions to volunteers and assist with conflict resolution as needed.
  • Support participants with referrals to community resources and inquiries.
  • Provide polite, responsive customer service in line with policies.
  • Perform other duties during shifts as required.
