Job description

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Finance Manager/Controller to join our leadership team. This key position is responsible for overseeing the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. The ideal candidate will manage daily accounting activities, establish a comprehensive job costing system integrating QuickBooks with LMN software, and deliver real-time financial insights to aid strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive accounting records.
  • Complete daily accounting transactions, including general ledger and VISA reconciliations.
  • Review and send invoices to clients while managing invoice and purchase order filing systems.
  • Handle Accounts Payable and Receivable to ensure timely billing and deposits.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, including Progress Draws and Holdbacks.
  • Develop and manage job costing systems between QuickBooks and LMN.
  • Provide updated job costing for ongoing projects in weekly planning meetings.
  • Assist with budget preparation and generate financial reports for management.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Process payroll for 25+ employees using PayWorks.
  • Ensure adherence to payroll procedures and compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., Employment Standards, CRA regulations).
  • Respond to payroll-related information requests from Service Canada and other authorities.

Government Remittances & Year-End Financials

  • Plan and complete HST and other government remittances.
  • Work closely with the company's accountant to ensure timely completion of year-end financials.
  • Oversee administrative staff, including task delegation, training, and performance management.
  • Promote a culture of efficiency, accountability, and professional growth within the team.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage company health benefits and group RRSP plans.
  • Provide financial insights to support business development and strategic planning.
Requirements

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).

Experience

  • Proven financial management experience, ideally in the landscaping or construction sector.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, LMN, and related accounting software.

Leadership Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.

Communication

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compliance Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll processes and Canadian legislation.

Analytical Skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with owners, senior management, and cross-functional teams.
