Position Summary

The Overhead Contact System (OCS) Linesperson is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of overhead contact system assets that support the safe and reliable operation of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs). The position performs preventive and corrective maintenance on OCS infrastructure, responds to service disruptions and emergency incidents, and supports the overall reliability and availability of the railway electrification system.

The successful candidate will work in a safety-critical environment and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement while working independently or as part of a maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on OCS assets, including:
    • Contact wire
    • Catenary wire
    • Droppers and hangers
    • Insulators
    • Section insulators
    • Poles and support structures
    • Feeder cables and equipment
  • Conduct scheduled inspections and condition assessments of OCS assets.
  • Identify, document, and report defects through the maintenance management system.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical failures of OCS systems.
  • Perform emergency response activities to restore service following incidents, system failures, weather events, or accidents.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, plans, and maintenance procedures.
  • Operate aerial devices, lifting equipment, and rail maintenance vehicles as required.
  • Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records accurately.
  • Participate in planned outages and work windows.
  • Ensure compliance with all railway operating rules, safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and maintenance standards.
  • Assist with commissioning, testing, and acceptance of new OCS infrastructure.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in safe working condition.
  • Perform any other duties that fall within your pay grade.
Education & Trade Certification
  • Journeyman Powerline Technician, Construction and Maintenance Electrician, or equivalent electrical trade certification preferred.
  • Light Rail or Railway OCS Linesperson qualification considered a strong asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Electrical Technology, Electromechanical Technology, or a related discipline is an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in:
    • Overhead Contact Systems (OCS)
    • Power distribution systems
    • Railway electrification systems
    • High-voltage electrical maintenance
  • Experience working on Light Rail Transit (LRT), commuter rail, subway, or heavy rail systems is preferred.
  • Experience performing maintenance in a safety-critical operating environment.
Technical Knowledge
  • Knowledge of:
    • Railway electrification systems
    • Traction power systems
    • OCS inspection and maintenance practices
    • Electrical troubleshooting techniquesPreventive and corrective maintenance processes
    • Blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
    • Maintenance management systems (Maximo preferred)
Certifications
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License.
  • Working at Heights Certification.
  • Elevated Work Platform / Aerial Lift Certification.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • Railway Track Access and Work Protection training (or ability to obtain).
  • High Voltage Switching authorization considered an asset.
  • Class DZ License considered an asset.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and on-call assignments as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to climb structures and work at heights.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in tunnels, right-of-way corridors, maintenance facilities, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to safely perform physically demanding maintenance activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Railway OCS Linesperson.
  • Experience with LRT or electrified railway systems.
  • Hi-Rail Vehicle Operator Certification.
  • Experience with switch heating systems, traction power interfaces, and railway communications infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of CSA, AREMA, and applicable railway industry standards.

Compensation

The expected compensation for this role is $65,000 CAD , plus benefits and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
