Job summary

Seneca College of Applied Arts & Technology is seeking a dedicated OTP Lab Support staff member to help run safe, efficient clinical labs and placements. You will work with the Program Coordinator, Placement Coordinator and instructors to support on-site student learning and lab operations.

Responsibilities include assisting with lab activities, enforcing safety protocols, updating course materials, and maintaining equipment and inventory.

Qualifications

• Minimum two year diploma in OTA/PTA.
• CAOT or OSOT membership preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• WHMIS/Hazardous materials training completed.

Responsibilities

• Support on-site student assistance in labs and placements.
• Assist course instructors and program team in lab activities and safety.
• Attend preparatory lab meetings and ensure alignment with course objectives.
• Update course shells on Blackboard as directed by instructors.
• Demonstrate and reinforce pre-learned principles in skills and procedures.
• Maintain a learning environment with proper use of lab equipment.
• Support lab safety, cleanliness and organization.
• Record attendance and monitor student progress using established criteria.
• Maintain inventory of lab consumables and coordinate orders as needed.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chair of the School of Health Sciences, this position will support the safe and efficient operations of the OTP clinical labs and placements in collaboration with the Program Coordinator, Placement Coordinator, and Lab course instructors. Accountabilities will include on site student support, teaching support, and implementation and maintenance of laboratory procedures and equipment.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the program team, which includes the Program Coordinator, Placement Coordinator, and Lab Course instructors, the OTP support staff is responsible for:

• Consulting with the course instructor and attending all preparatory laboratory meetings
• Ensuring student awareness of lab course objectives, approach, and evaluation techniques
• Reviewing blackboard for lessons and updating the course shells as directed
• Reinforcing, demonstrating, assisting and supporting pre-learned principles and their application to skills and procedures
• Providing a learning environment that makes effective use of laboratory equipment
• Supporting and maintaining lab safety, cleanliness and organization
• Providing observation of student skills and progress using developed guidelines and criteria
• Reporting on student progress/achievement to the lab course instructor(s)
• Maintaining records of attendance
• Taking inventory of all consumables used in the OTP labs and directing orders as needed
• Maintaining and monitoring the wear and tear of all OTP equipment and suppliesUpdating lab plans and assessments as directed by course instructor
• Supporting organization of students on evaluation days in labs
• Making connections for future clinical placement sites

Qualifications

Education, Qualifications and Other Requirements

• Minimum two (2) year diploma in OTA/PTA
• Membership in CAOT, or OSOT preferred
• Valid CPR and First Aid certification
• Completed WHMIS/Hazardous materials training

Experience

• Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience as an OTA/PTA
• Previous formal or informal lab technician experience is considered and asset
