Job summary

Nova Scotia Health is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide assessment, treatment and follow-up across hospital, home and community settings. You will collaborate with clients and families to develop individualized plans and manage a busy caseload while prioritizing care with strong clinical judgement.

The successful candidate will hold a BSc in Occupational Therapy, be licensed with the Nova Scotia Occupational Therapy Regulator, and have BLS-C.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, Nova Scotia Occupational Therapy Regulator, is mandatory.
  • BLS-C is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, treatment, evaluation and follow-up for patients in hospital, home and community.
  • Collaborate with client, caregivers and family to establish and monitor individualized treatment plans and goals.
  • Manage a busy caseload with clinical judgement and prioritization.
  • Educate and support clients, families and caregivers, and participate in education of OT students and staff.

About the Opportunity

The Occupational Therapist works under the supervision of the Manager. The Occupational Therapist (OT) works in collaboration with the client, caregivers and family to facilitate, restore and/or maintain the patient/clients optimal level of function in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. The OT provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation and follow-up while working within the hospital, the client's home and/or their community. The OT, in collaboration with the client, establishes individualized treatment plans and goals independently manage a busy caseload and use clinical judgement and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required. The OT provides education and support to clients, families and caregivers. The OT functions as both a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team. The OT contributes to the clinical education of OT students and related health disciplines and for supervision of OT Assistants.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, Nova Scotia Occupational Therapy Regulator, is mandatory
  • BLS-C
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other health care providers and staff
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the service and the program/facility
  • Must be able to work alone or with team members in all service settings
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Permanent part-time position; 30 hours biweekly
  • May be required to work weekends
  • Travel to other sites is required and must have access to a reliable vehicle
Compensation and Benefits

$38.43 - $50.99 hourly
