Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking an Occupational Therapist for Community Transitions at The Bridge Shelter in Dartmouth. This role involves assessment and intervention to support clients’ self-care, productivity and leisure in community settings, with collaboration across community and hospital teams.

The ideal candidate will have a CAOT-recognized OT program, active licensure or eligibility with COTNS, CPR/BLS-C certification, and a driver’s license for home visits.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a CAOT recognized School of Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS).
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Community experience is preferred.
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for home visits.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation, assessment, treatment and follow-up in self-care, productivity and leisure domains.
  • Collaborate with community and hospital teams to support clients in transitions.
  • Liaise with caregivers and service providers in a trauma-informed, harm-reduction setting.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Community Transitions, the Occupational Therapist provides consultation, assessment, treatment and follow-up of clients in the occupational performance areas of self-care, productivity and leisure for clients in the community throughout Central Zone of Nova Scotia Health. The objectives of treatment are to facilitate, restore and/or maintain clients' optimal level of function. The Occupational Therapist provides intervention to address clients' occupational performance components (physical, cognitive and/or affective). The Occupational Therapist provides education and support to clients, families and caregivers. Excellent interpersonal communication skills are required. The Occupational Therapist is a member of the Community Occupational Therapy - Physiotherapy Team and liaises with Continuing Care, multidisciplinary hospital care teams and community agencies and service providers.

This role is based at The Bridge in Dartmouth. The Bridge is a shelter where health and social supports are available in a way that is trauma-informed, grounded in harm reduction, and culturally safe, honoring each guest's lived experience and autonomy while fostering dignity, compassion, connection, and choice.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of a C.A.O.T recognized School of Occupational Therapy
  • Licensed or eligible for licensurewith the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience practicing as an Occupational Therapist
  • Community experience is preferred
  • Maintain current certification in CPR
  • BLS-C (HCP) Certification
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required for home/community visits
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Compensation and Benefits

$38.43 - $50.98 hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
