Job summary

Sagkeeng Child & Family Services, Inc in Manitoba is seeking a full-time Occupational Therapist to join a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to child, adolescent and family mental health. You will apply empathy, professionalism and culturally informed care to support adaptive functioning across home, school and community.

The role requires MOT, registration or eligibility with COTM, and at least two years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• MOT degree from an accredited program.
• Licensed/eligible with COTM.
• Minimum 2 years experience in child/adolescent mental health.
• Experience working with school systems.
• Strong clinical skills in mental health assessment and treatment.
• Knowledge of provincial mental health resources.
• Cultural awareness of Indigenous contexts.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments.
• Observation and assessment of children requiring assistance with adaptive functioning in home, community and school settings.
• Consults with school staff and school-based mental health professionals on interventions for behavior, social skills, emotional stress, functional living skills and trauma.
• In-classroom coaching of educators and school staff on strategy implementation to promote school success.
• Develops and rehabilitates clients with mental, emotional, developmental and physical disabilities through planned occupational therapy.
• Addresses fine motor, functional, vocational and independent living skills, plus sensory needs and emotion regulation.
• Promotes independence by tailoring therapies to individual capacity and interests.
• Provides education to children, families and caregivers on mental health.

SAGKEENG CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (SCFS) is looking for a FULL-TIME Occupational Therapist. You practice empathy, understanding and patience. You promote a safe therapeutic environment. You will be joining a creative, initiative, and dynamic multi-disciplinary team. You are knowledgeable of SCFS, Sagkeeng First Nation and Indigenous culture. This position reports to SCFS Biidaaziiway Gamik Clinical Supervisor - Specialized Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (MOT), from an accredited post-secondary school.
• Must be licensed/registered or eligible with COTM.
• Minimum 2 years recent and relevant experience in child, adolescent and family mental health.
• Demonstrated working experience with the school system.
• Exceptional clinical skills in the mental health assessment and treatment of children as well as their families.
• Extensive knowledge of provincial mental health community resources and services.
• Knowledge and awareness of cultural and socio-economic factors that inform service provision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conducts comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments.
• Provides observation and assessment of children requiring assistance with adaptive functioning n the home, community and school settings.
• Consults with school staff and school-based mental health professionals regarding the implementation of interventions related to behavior, social skills, emotional stress, functional living skills and trauma.
• Conducts live in-classroom coaching of educators and school staff on implementation of strategies to promote school success.
• Facilitates development and rehabilitation of clients with mental, emotional, developmental and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy.
• Implements programs addressing fine motor skills, practice in functional, pre-vocational, vocational and independent living skills as well as sensory needs and emotion regulation.
• Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual’s physical capacity, intelligence level and interest.
• Provides children, family, and caregivers mental health education.
• Facilitates group intervention addressing mental health and adaptive living skills.
• Provides training workshops in various settings.
• Participates in the clinical delivery of the team's clinical services, including developing individual service plans and coordinating community resources to maximize optimal mental health outcomes.
• Partnering with clients and families to formulate and implement individual goals with focused, targeted and measurable outcomes.
• Providing direct client support in collaboration with client’s families to plan, implement, and evaluate care.
• Utilizing research to formulate and implement evidence-based practices.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Conducting ergonomic assessments for all staff as required
• Writing and filing reports, case notes, contact logs, and maintaining stats
