Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto is seeking a Food Service Worker for the Nutrition Services department at Toronto Western Hospital. This replacement, permanent full-time role offers a 37.5-hour week, primarily 07:30–15:30, Monday–Friday, with a wage range of CAD 28.80–29.69 per hour.

Responsibilities include ordering, stocking, delivering and rotating nutrition items, and inventory control while following safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Food Handler Certificate required (documentation within 60 days of hire).
  • 3–6 months practical and related experience or 1–3 months on-the-job training.
  • Must understand verbal work orders and instructions.
  • Able to read/understand brief forms, invoices, orders and memos.
  • Ability to perform simple math and input orders in a computerized system.
  • Stock rotation knowledge.
  • Must lift up to 5 kg and assist with loading/unloading food trucks.

  • Fill nutrition orders for multiple areas and apply First in First out system.
  • Deliver orders to designated locations per schedules; unload and store items.
  • Receive and store incoming goods; ensure safety and verify against requisitions.
  • Perform inventory control duties.
  • Comply with Occupational Health & Safety Act and report hazards.
  • Perform cross-functional duties as assigned.
  • Assist with staff orientation and other duties as required.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Wage Range: $28.80 - $29.69 per hour (Start rate non-negotiable.)

Shifts: 0730-1530 Monday-Friday

Status: Permanent Full-Time

Closing Date: July 23, 2026

Responsibilities
  • Ordering food and other required nutrition items for the Toronto Western Nutrition Department
  • Filling nutrition orders for multiple areas, applying “First in First out” system when removing items from locations and bin numbers
  • Delivering orders to designated locations, as per established schedules, unloading and putting items in designated location
  • Receiving and storing incoming goods, following safety precautions, matching received goods with purchase requisitions generated from FMS
  • Performing inventory control duties
  • Working in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contravention’s of the Act, in a timely manner
  • Performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required, including, assisting with staff orientation, etc.
Qualifications
  • At minimum, completion of high school or recognized equivalent;
  • Food Handler Certificate, required (documentation to be provided within 60 days of hire);
  • 3-6 months practical and related experience and/or 1-3 months on the job training;
  • Must be able to understand verbal work orders and instructions;
  • Must be able to read/understand short notes, brief forms to read invoices, orders and memos;
  • Ability to do simple mathematical calculations (e.g., adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, etc.);
  • Understanding of stock rotation;
  • Ability to input and check orders using a computerized system;
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: able to lift up to 5 kg, loading, and unloading food trucks; pushing heavy food trucks during pick up and delivery of meals;
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards;
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task;
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy;
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies;
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand;
  • Food Service Worker Certificate, an asset;
